Not garage rock related but still pretty cool…

The Independent just announced two back-to-back Dave Chappelle shows tonight, going on sale at noon. SWAG.

Thee Oh Sees announce additional dates (mostly Europe), add Lars Finberg, release a double-LP that may or may not be still in stock at Aquarius

(via east-coasters BrooklynVegan)

Fresh off their energetic “mellow” set at Du Nord, Thee Oh Sees embark on a 25-stop (mostly) European tour, returning to the States for the Woodsist Festival on Sunday, July 31st to head a bill with local SF garage rockers Fresh and Onlys//Sic Alps. Newly added member Lars Finsberg will be providing multi-instrumental support and vocals. The BV article also mentions the singles release, Singles Collection Vol. 1 & 2which if you didn’t have a chance to pick up at the last two Oh Sees shows, is now (and almost certainly, temporarily) stocked by Aquarius.

NOT on the Singles tracklist but will be on Castlemania, available June 14th, is the song I Need Seed, which you can listen to below.

Scion widens campaign to buy hipster love, sponsors free screening of new Garage Rock documentary tonight at Embarcadero Center (tonight)

(Via SFFunCheap)

Ticketing begins at 6pm, and the screening follows an hour later from 7-9. Reportedly featured in the documentary are the bands Jay Reatard, Black Lips, The Dirtbombs, Thee Oh Sees (who are playing tonight at Cafe Du Nord), and Smith Westerns.

Just from the poster above, it looks like a wide subsection of the local Bay Area music scene is getting love in this film. Not quite sure where GIRLS figures in the “Garage Rock” spectrum, but it should be an interesting watch nonetheless.

“I can actually fucking hear that now.”

Thee Oh Sees play a toned-down set tomorrow at Cafe Du Nord, with no confirmation yet if Christopher Owens will re-up his role last night as lead tambourinist. Kelley Stoltz listed as an opener under the moniker “George Cloud.” $12/8pm.
Ty Segall is slated to play a few weeks later at the Du Nord, on May 9th for $10. Get your tickets…

See Dengue Fever for Free at Amoeba, aka there’s a lot of shit going on tonight

In addition to the saveKUSF/Eagle Tavern night tonight and the tUnE-YarDs tour kickoff show at Great American Music Hall, Cambodian psych-rock outfit Dengue Fever — who fittingly played the Fillmore on National Weed Day last week — is playing a set at the seminal record store at 6PM today. Which I realize is in 90 minutes. Which is just about as long as anyone in this city needs to dig their Chucks out of their closet and ride the 71 over to the Haight in time. If you’re in the area, you should definitely stop by and check them out.

saveKUSF // save eagle tavern together in one night (tomorrow)

The Bay Bridged:

Two SF institutions under attack converge for the latest Save KUSF benefit show, Tuesday, April 26th, at the Eagle Tavern (8pm, $tba). The show is topped by Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall, two acts that are consistently awesome live like few others. Get there early for Carletta Sue Kay and The Sandwitches.

A former DJ for the radio station-in-exile, Ty has been a very passionate champion on the saveKUSF front. Together with Thee Oh Sees and The Sandwitches, this is the second benefit show the trio has played this year.

8pm tomorrow, price not yet announced.

Download Ryan Lynch’s mixtape, then see his four-piece pop outfit Dominant Legs play Wednesday at Rickshaw

Via Nightfogreader:

Ryan Lynch is the songwriter behind the now four-piece pop act Dominant Legs. Last year’s “Young At Love and Life” EP (Lefse Records) channeled the afflictions of young love in a gentle sway of bright vocals and soft synths. This year, they’ve played a bunch of really great shows, and are coming up as one of our town’s finest. Ryan put together a mix for us. Everybody enjoy, and catch Dominant Legs live this Wednesday, 4/27 at the Rickshaw Stop with Superhumanoids and Dirty Ghosts.

I added the show to the new Events page we just put up yesterday night. Think of it as a slightly redacted version of Steve Koepke’s The List.
