If you’re looking for a well-priced show featuring a strong line-up of some true up-and-comers in the city (and one startling out-of-towner), The Mallard/Burnt Ones/Lantern show at The Knockout on Monday the 17th is sure to sonically flay you. The Mallard, finally in full three-piece form, is riding high on the recent completion of their first album, a nine or ten song bit of surf rock that somehow sounds like it was recorded in a creaking haunted mansion. Burnt Ones might just be the best thing San Francisco has produced in the last five years and if you aren’t starting each and every one of your mornings with a blast of “Bury Me In Smoke” your days just aren’t as good as mine. Lantern, a Philadelphia proto-punk band, recently melted most of my internal organs with a cover of Barrett Strong’s “Money (That’s What I Want)” and if their live show is even slightly indicative of that churning bit of gravel, you and everyone else will be devastated to miss their only San Francisco performance. RSVP here.
